While our beaches welcome many visitors, we want to address a subject that is particularly close to our hearts: the preservation of our coastline and our privileged living environment.

Feedback with the Côte Fleurie Propre association

Recently, the tourist office had the pleasure of participating in a waste collection operation on our beaches. This initiative has allowed us to better understand the challenges and importance of keeping our beaches clean.

Hunting for waste

Alexandra, partners and promotion manager, as well as Sarah, intern in charge of sustainable tourism, were welcomed by the members of the association Clean Flower Coast. They were able to walk the Houlgate beach, looking for waste, more or less hidden in the sand. Butts, plastic packaging, glass bottles, rope…

A great opportunity to be useful, all in an exceptional setting.

The types of trash are varied, and mix with shells and sea leash. The trash found by each participant was then grouped together, which made it possible to fill a 110-liter bag three-quarters full.

Did you know ?

70 kg : this is the use of plastics by each French person each year. The equivalent of 1 garbage truck of plastic is thrown away every minute in the ocean. 690 animal species are threatened by microplastics (source: ADEME).

The impact of a clean coastline on the tourism industry

A clean coastline not only benefits the environment, it also has significant positive impacts on the entire local tourism industry:

  1. Tourist attractiveness : clean beaches are one of the first criteria of choice for travelers. They attract not only domestic tourists but also international visitors, thus increasing tourist flow and revenue for the local economy.
  2. Visitor satisfaction: a clean beach improves the overall visitor experience, encouraging them to extend their stay, return and recommend the destination to friends and family. A positive experience also promotes online ratings and reviews, strengthening our territory's reputation.
  3. Public health : A clean environment reduces health risks associated with waste, such as injuries from sharp objects or water pollution, ensuring the safety and well-being of our visitors and premises.
  4. biodiversity : Clean beaches contribute to the protection of local flora and fauna, creating a healthy and attractive ecosystem for nature discovery activities, such as bird watching and eco-hikes.

Involve the youngest

Involving children in preserving our beaches is a wonderful opportunity to raise their awareness of the importance of the environment while offering them a fun and educational activity. Collecting trash can become an exciting treasure hunt, allowing them to better understand the value of our coastline while having fun.

Thanks to our collective action, we offer our visitors a welcoming and preserved Normandy land, where they will enjoy coming and returning.

The Côte Fleurie Propre association

Clean Flower Coast is an association, created in 2021, which operates on several beaches, including Houlgate, Cabourg, Merville-Franceville-Plage and Hôme-Varaville. Their outings are free and accessible to all. The association makes its own tweezers, and lends them to participants during collection. Prior registration required.
