Angerville

Angerville is a small rural village of 190 inhabitants located in the community of communes Normandy Cabourg Pays d'Auge. Only 7 km from the beaches of the Côte Fleurie and 20 km from Lisieux, the town is typical of the Auge area with its traditional half-timbered houses and its Norman bocage landscapes. Its area is barely 4 km2 and yet, on this small territory is installed the racecourse of Dozulé, a real institution.

The Angerville races

If the horse circuit took the name of the neighboring town, Dozulé, it is indeed on the grounds of Angerville that it welcomes each year trotting races. Located at the gates of the horse land of Pays d'Auge horse land, it participates in the anchoring of equine culture in the region. Stud farms, racecourses, horseback riding and equestrian centres are indeed part of the DNA of Calvados

The Angerville racetrack hosts three events a year. A mounted or harnessed trot race takes place every Thursday of Ascension, and two others in the heart of summer, in the middle of August. They attract professionals as well as amateurs and families. If you plan to visit Normandy on these dates, do not miss this festive day. The atmosphere is particularly appreciated. The 1 075 meters track of this regional category racecourse is the playground for a lively show, in a relaxed and rural atmosphere, far from the social life of the other racecourses in the Côte Fleurie.

Jean-Pierre Viel, president of the Société des courses de Dozulé, is attached to this place. He belongs to one of the oldest families of French trotter breeders. For him, the racecourse of Dozulé represents "the beginning of the races. That's how it all started”. It remained "in its original state" and must remain in activity "to be able to show it to the public". When the association was created in 1895, families were already coming to watch the Ascension race, after the communion meal.

For guided tourslovers, an original way to discover the racecourse is to go behind the scenes. The association Le Pays d'Auge organises visits every year during which you will be accompanied by a breeder and meet a veterinarian. You will leave with all the keys to understanding a running program!

Angerville and its surroundings

If you attend a race, take the opportunity to take a look at the Angerville presbytery which now houses the town hall. To get there, you have to take a small bridge that spans the anchor, a tributary of the river Dives, whose course flows a few kilometers further into the English Channel. In its waters live trouts and river lampreys which delight anglers. This little corner does not lack charm. Opposite the town hall stands the Saint-Léger church of the XIIe century.
